Hollywood bible Variety has reported that Nicole Kidman has beaten out some stiff competition in to grab the role of Grace Kelly in the upcoming film Grace of Monaco. The role apparently attracted the attention of numerous top Hollywood actresses who desperatly wanted to play the iconic princess of Monaco.
But the film isn’t a biopic, it focuses on a six month period in 1962 when Monaco got into a heated dispute with France, which grew tired of the petite principality being a tax haven. Grace, still relatively new in her role as princess, maneuvered behind the scenes to save Monaco from a coup. Insiders have compared the script to King’s Speech in scope and tone. The film will be directed by Olivier Dahan, who also made La Vie en Rose about Edith Piaf.
